Decoupage Technique
The Decoupage technique consists of decorating all kinds of surfaces with paper cut-outs, gluing them with a special adhesive. It is a very simple technique that allows us to personalise a multitude of objects and furniture, such as boxes, wardrobes, chairs, flowerpots, vases, candles, tins, etc.
Whether to decorate your home or to give as a gift, Decoupage is perfect, as you can choose the style you prefer, from minimalist to vintage. The final result will depend on the papers and colours you choose.
How is Decoupage done?
First prepare the surface where you are going to do the Decoupage by cleaning and if necessary sanding. You can also apply a coat of paint that matches the paper you are going to use. Next, apply a thin layer of glue on the surface and place the paper on top, making sure that there are no bubbles or wrinkles, you can help yourself with a spatula. The excess edges should be torn with a file or by hand, not with scissors or a cutter. Finally, apply another thin layer of glue on top. Let it dry for 8-10 hours before applying the varnish.
