Pen holders and Cane Pens for calligraphy

Craftelier has countless products related to calligraphy and lettering. That said, it is important to know how to differentiate each product in order to determine which one is best suited to our project.

Which penholder or cane pen holder for calligraphy?

The penholder is one of the most elegant calligraphy tools available. The main element is the feather, a piece of metal with a split beak-shaped end, which is usually a so-called "pointed" feather.

The pointed nib needs to be regularly charged with ink because it does not have a tank. Its principle is to press on the feather; the spout will open and allow the ink to flow in. It is very popular with penholders.

The fountain pen holder is also variable, it is available in two models: oblique which has a very pronounced writing angle (45º) and straight, the most known because it is similar to all the pens and pencils that are handled on a daily basis.

The cane pen is a much older tool and therefore more rustic and rudimentary. It is originally a piece of bamboo cut on both sides with an ink reserve to draw fine lines. Its particular advantage is that it does not scrape, and therefore, does not damage the paper.
