All-American Ads of the 60s
With the consumerist euphoria of the 1950s still intact and the space race to the moon at its peak, advertising in the 1960s was lighthearted, optimistic and sometimes revolutionary.
Stars such as Woody Allen, Sean Connery, Salvador DalĆ and Sammy Davis Jr. advertised everything from bourbon to handmade suits in Madison Avenue's attempt to encourage Americans to open their wallets and partake of the gigantic consumerist feast.
Social change at the end of the decade brought psychedelic swirls and brought the cause of liberated women and minorities to a suddenly aware public. Look out for some of the most surprising and controversial ads, such as the Tupperware ad that calls its products "wife savers".
