Originally made of red marroquin with filigree and gilt pointelle, the binding reproduced here has been part of the Bibliothèque Nationale de France since the Second Empire (1865-1870). It was designed by an unknown Parisian workshop to house the "Pars hiemalis" section of the Parisian Breviarium.
