Up to 10 shades with one single marker! Chameleon Pens

@mrasingh

These markers are pretty famous but there are many questions about their use. Chameleon pens are very useful for illustration and manga, and when it comes to colouring our scrapbooking stamps they make our work much easier. In this post, we hope to be able to solve all your doubts about them and clarify everything surrounding these special markers.

We're talking about permanent alcohol-based markers, with professional quality. But its most distinctive feature is that it allows us to change the colour. Yes, yes, to change the colour! With just one pen we can create a gradient of up to 10 different intensities.

This is something super useful that we always face when we go buying illustration markers. If we want to create gradients and shadows in our illustrations, we need several shades from the same colour palette but not with the Chameleon. With these markers, we can get 10 intensities with only one colour. That's crazy, right?

We can achieve this thanks to the mixer included in each of the markers. All we have to do is insert the tip into the mixer cap and wait a few seconds, from 5 to 35 seconds, and then, start painting. You'll start to paint with the lighter colour and little by little the marker will paint darker, which is the original shade of the marker. The longer we have the nib in the mixer the lighter the original colour will be.

You'll be able to make dimensional effects, give light, depth, and shadows just by using one colour.

Another advantage is that these markers have two tips,a precision one and another in the shape of a brush. With both we can get the same colour transition effects. The best way to understand how good are these markers is seeing it by ourselves!

In the following videos, you can see how the pens work. As you can see, all the colours are slowly returning to their original shade, the darkest one.

This video is from the CHA 2015 presentation. You can see the range of colours and a lot of projects made on wood, fabric and scrapbook paper which shows how versatile these markers are.

Some of you already have them and love working with them. We totally understand :)

Hopefully this post has helped you in case you had any doubts about how they work. If you still has some questions, don't hesitate in asking us.
