Weāll explain the Bullet Journal technique, the system that has shaken the planner world.
We started with Project Life, that system that simplifies our way of doing daily chronicles, then the Happy Planners came, beautiful planners to help us organize our days and now itās time for the Bullet Journal.
What is a Bullet Journal?
Surely youāve heard about Bullet Journal more than once (there are millions of photos around Instagram and Pinterest!) but you may not yet know exactly what is it. Thatās the reason of this post, to explain this new trend in the world of personal organization system.
It may sound very fancy, but donāt get fooled, this is the best invention ever, especially if you're one of those who loves making list about everything and be organized but ordinary planners arenāt your thing because there are days when you donāt have anything to write down and other days you need more space to write the number of things you need to do.
Ryder Carrol was the person who conceived the Bullet Journal. Basically, itās about using a new notebook every year in which weāll write as a list of what we have to do. It may be by days, weeks or months⦠as you prefer.
The difference with a normal planner is that in the Bullet Journal days and pages are not market yet, they are just blank dotted pages. We have to write down the events and tasks and, also, the page number. If you donāt write every day on your planner this system is great for you. How many times weāve bought an agenda and then we barely write on it and there are tons of blank pages on it? Surely more than once. And thereās nothing worse than an empty planner. It seems that we havenāt done a thing, and, very likely, itās quite the opposite.
Thatās why the Bullet Journal is very practical, you donāt have to write every day so you wonāt waste space in your agenda. Also, its blank pages allow us to use it to write other types of things, draw something, do sketches, use it as a journal, etc. You can do whatever you want and adapt the planner to your needs, but donāt forget to to be fully creative.

If you make lists, we recommend you writing down short and concise sentences with symbols. Also, youāll need to add captions to help you remember what kind of task is each one and if itās completed or not, if itās urgent, etc. You can create as many symbols as you think is necessary for your lifestyle and collect them in one of the first pages, where you can watch them whenever you need it to.
How to create a BuJo?
Well⦠what are the first steps to create a Bullet Journal? Very easy!
- Choose a notebook: a model you fancy and you think itād be practical. Think about the size youāll need (if you want to carry it everywhere you go or if itās going to be always at your desk). We ā and many Bullet Journal fans ā love Leuchtturm1917 notebooks because of its practical format and interior design, as weāll explain later on.
- Create your own caption for symbols so youāll know exactly what they mean.
- Create an index: this is a basic point to make your Bullet Journal work. In the first pages you should create an index for all the things you take notes on your Bullet Journal. For example, the January calendar on page 7, February calendar on page 7, birthday reminders on page 15, etc. If you want your index to work youāll need to write the number on the pages as you write them. Essential to know where is everything!
- Start creating your own pages: create them according to your needs. Make them by days, weeks, months, to-do lists, monthly goals, shopping lists, etc.
As you can see, there are many advantages! As you have total freedom, you can do as many sections as you like, without being restricted by some brand layout. Of course, you can decorate your Bullet Journal if you want to. So, if you like to make drawings on your planner, using different colours or using wash-tape and stickers, this is the best place to do all of that. Actually, there are Bullet Journals that are a true work of art.

Leuchtturm 1917
As we explained before, the Leuchtturm 1917 notebooks are specially designed to make Bullet Journals. Weāll explain the advantages that other notebooks donāt have. Moreover, these notebooks have a huge range of colours to fall in love with. A good size for a notebook is A5, it doesnāt weigh too much and you can carry everywhere but still, it has enough space to write plenty of things as long list. Leuchtturm1917 has 249 numbered pages. This is very helpful as we donāt have to number the pages ourselves before starting the journal.
Their interior design is another great advantage, pages are dotted (forget about gridded or lined paper). This dotted system will make us easier to work and create because its dots will work as a guide to make lines, tables, and squares and itāll very helpful to write in a straight line. Itās very easy to make sections for days, weeks, etc... Without using a rule or having a steady hand.

Its paper is high quality and we can write on them without any problem, the ink wonāt go through the pages. It also has a pocket on the cover inside and 8 sheets to tear off in case you have to deliver notes and adhesive sheets to customize the cover and the loin if you want to.
