Henk Schiffmacher, Amsterdam-based tattoo artist and historian, is a living legend in the world of tattooing. Schiffmacher, who has been travelling the world since the 1970s, has assembled one of the largest collections of contemporary and historical objects from the world of tattooing, called Schiffmacher Tattoo Heritage. He has tattooed many rock and pop stars, and his studio attracts countless tattoo devotees. A director and writer, he has published over twenty books, including the TASCHEN title 1000 Tattoos, and has done designs for many brands. In 2017, the King and Queen of the Netherlands decorated him as an officer of the Order of Orange-Nassau, a Dutch order of chivalry and the highest award given to a civilian.
