Art History in Comics 2 The Middle Ages

  • The adventures of Profe and his gang continue in the second volume of the History of Art in comics: The Middle Ages. Are you ready to jump from Visigoth Hispania to Constantinople, to go on a pilgrimage along the Way of St. James, and to accompany Marco Polo on the Silk Road to the court of the khan? If you are, follow me!
  • It is a hilarious review of a millennium of history and art, which starts where the previous volume, The Classical World, left off, at the end of the Roman Empire, and goes all the way to the dawn of the Renaissance, with Bosch and his Hayride as a bridge to the future, to the next four volumes in this collection: the Renaissance, the Baroque era, the 19th century and the 20th century. The balance between knowledge and fun is achieved by its author, Pedro Cifuentes, thanks to his work as a secondary school teacher, which puts him in contact with the interests and problems of children and teenagers every day, and his passion for comics. A task that has earned him the National Award for Education for Development and the Outstanding Teacher Award from the Generalitat Valenciana.
  • We will travel through medieval Spain with monuments such as the Mosque of Cordoba, the Portico de la Gloria of the Cathedral of Santiago, the monastery of Santa MarĆa de Poblet or the castle of Loarre. We will also go beyond the Pyrenees to marvel at the domes of Saint Sophia and Saint Mark's, the faƧades of Ghent and the height of Notre Dame, which receives a beautiful tribute, wishing this old lady a speedy recovery. And we will go even further, because our History of Art has a universal vocation, and we will visit the cave churches of Ethiopia, distant China and even see a pre-Columbian codex. Dark? Ha!
  • In this journey, the comic book agents will have an exceptional cicerone like Umberto Eco, with deluxe cameos like Leonardo de Vinci. And, as in the previous volume, a lot of winks that make the adult reader enjoy like a child, references to Cavafis, Machado or Delacroix that pepper the pages, cross-references and play of levels that enrich Cifuentes' work so much... Take courage and let's go in search of the Grail, even if the beasts of the Apocalypse of Beato de LiĆ©bana defend it!
