What period is a painting from? Who painted it? What does it explain to us? Why do we like it? How does it move us? We all ask ourselves these and many other questions when we admire a work of art and, most of the time, we do not know how to answer. This book offers those answers and allows the reader to penetrate into the intimacy of each painting to approach art from a new perspective. The book is organised around the six main axes that help us to understand a painting. From its analysis as a simple object that must be dated and whose characteristics must be unravelled (materials used, technique, support...) to the pictorial style, passing through the theme, composition, drawing and colour, and the treatment of the human figure.
