American Matt Crackle Medium

What is craquelure?

Crackle is a cracking that ages the surface. To work with it, a layer of crackle medium should be applied over an already dry layer of Americana Chalky Finish paint.

Once dry, apply a thin layer of the desired top colour, which is recommended to be lighter.

As the product dries it will crack and crackle.

To achieve a larger opening of the cracks, more of the cracking product should be applied.

Application techniques and brush stroke direction will create different crackle patterns.

To clean a finished piece, use soap and water with a soft cloth or kitchen sponge.

Wipe off any food or drink residue as soon as possible.

Americana Decor special products are water soluble.

Brushes and other tools are easily cleaned with soap and water.

The thicker the top coat of paint, the larger the cracks will be.

For small cracks, apply the top coat by dabbing with a sponge.

To achieve different effects, you can play with the thickness of the applied layer. A thicker coat will generate larger cracks, while a thinner coat will produce smaller cracks.

You can also combine different paint colours to create a more dynamic and interesting effect.
