What exactly is a die-cut?

A die-cut is a metallic shape whose edges are bevelled and sharpened so that, if you apply pressure to a sheet of paper, it cuts the sheet; if you use something thick, such as leather, the die-cut will do what we call embossing, which is leaving a dimensional impression. There are many types of die-cuts; some are magnetic and others require a methacrylate base to hold in place during the passage through the cutting machine.

How does the die-cutting machine work?

The cutting machine creates a handmade shape using pressure; a simple and basic process. The die-cut is placed on the material you want to cut, then between two plates, just like a sandwich. The whole thing is placed into the machine which passes the sandwich between two rollers that apply pressure. You save time and your repetitive patterns are perfectly cut in a professional way. The differences between die-cutting machines lie mainly in the dimensions of the cutting surface offered by each of the and whether it is manual or powered by electricity. What materials can you die-cut?
