Vellum paper, also known as tracing paper or onion skin paper, is a very versatile type of speciality paper, perfect for use in all kinds of scrapbooking, card-making and stationery projects. It is a lightweight paper with a translucent finish, giving it a very subtle and elegant look.

Types of vellum paper

On our website, you’ll find a wide range of vellum paper. From the Craftelier brand, we offer a pack of ten 30x30 cm plain sheets and a pack of 16 sheets in pastel shades. You’ll also find other sizes from different brands.

Furthermore, vellum paper can also be patterned, in both black and white and in colour, or even feature a foil print. It will still have that translucent finish, but with a pattern that adds interest and ensures it complements your project. Many collections often include a vellum paper design amongst their products, matching their colours and patterns.

What can I do with vellum paper?

Vellum paper is a very versatile material, so we can use it in many different ways. For example, as a page in an album, adding some embellishments. We can also use it on a tag by placing it over patterned paper, allowing the pattern behind to show through subtly. It can be used to create a pocket, an envelope or to frame a photo in a delicate way.

Vellum paper is easy to cut, making it ideal for use with die-cuts or hole punches. In particular, edge punches are a great way to use vellum to create beautiful decorations.

Techniques for working with vellum paper

As well as the ideas we’ve just given you, vellum paper is also suitable for all sorts of techniques, which you can use to decorate and personalise it.

Embossing: You can emboss vellum paper using both cold and hot embossing techniques. With hot embossing, you can stamp any design and create a spectacular effect. And with cold embossing, you can add texture, turning it into a very special detail.

Inks: Using inks and sponges or blending brushes, you can give it any colour you like, ensuring it fits perfectly into your project. Alcohol-based inks: Vellum paper is also suitable for use with alcohol-based inks. The marbled effect on vellum will amaze you. If you add a sheet of white card behind it, the colours will stand out even more. Gel pens or felt-tip pens: create your own pattern or write some text. Make sure the ink is permanent and quick-drying.

Foil: Foil stands out beautifully on vellum paper. It can be applied using adhesive, a laminator or a cutting plotter, using a special foil-application tip.

Sealing wax: A sealing wax stamp is the perfect addition to vellum paper. It’s one of the favourite ways to use it in wedding projects.

Printing: You can print any design onto a sheet of vellum paper using your home printer. Invitations, menus, lanterns… A whole world of possibilities!
