Dies are more trendy than ever, and a good way to get more out of them is to emboss them. To do this, all you need is the Embossing Magic Mat. Give your projects a different touch!
What is the Embossing Magic Mat?
The newest member of the Magic Mat family is the Embossing Magic Mat. It is a silicone base with which we can emboss our fine dies, the Thinlits type.
Simply add the Embossing Magic Mat to your die-cutting sandwich to emboss your die's design onto your cardstock instead of cutting it.

With the Embossing Magic Mat, you can get more out of your dies. You can add an embossed detail to your projects, make a card in which the embossing is the highlight, or combine die-cutting with embossing. If you choose the latter technique, we recommend you to do it in this order: first die-cut and then emboss. If you do it the other way round, when you put your paper through the die-cutting machine for the second time to cut it with the die, the pressure will make the embossing relief disappear considerably.
Which machines is the Embossing Magic Mat compatible with?
The new Embossing Magic Mat is compatible with the Sizzix Big Shot, it is the same size as the cutting plates of this machine. However, if you want to use it on a larger Sizzix embossing machine, like the Big Shot Plus, you can do it without any problem. The only thing to consider then is the size of the dies.
Another point to bear in mind is the quality of the paper you are working with. Their quality will influence the final result of the embossing.
How to make the sandwich with the Embossing Magic Mat?
Working with this new tool to achieve your embossing is very easy. The sandwich is as follows:
- Big Shot Platform
- Cutting base
- Embossing Magic Mat
- Paper
- Die facing the paper
- And finally, the other cutting base

Of course, you can replace any of the cutting mats with our Magic Mat, both turquoise and magnetic.
You can see the sandwich is made in much the same way as it would be using the thin cutting dies. The difference is that you should remove the fine die adaptor and place the Embossing Magic Mat between the die and the paper and the cutting base.
And that's how easy it is to get embossings of all our dies.
Best of all, the Embossing Magic Mat is hardly damaged, so you can use it non-stop without having to replace it.
