Create embossed designs on your papers and cards. In case you have never heard of embossing folders, in this post we explain what they are.
Cold embossing is a technique for embossing, that is, creating a relief, on paper or cardboard using pressure. And to apply this pressure we use die-cutting machines, such as the Big Shot or our new Minty Cut, among others.
And how is this embossing done? The embossing folder has a design on both sides of the inside, on one side, in high relief and on the other, in low relief. So, you just have to place the cardboard inside and put it through the embossing machine, making the corresponding sandwich according to the machine.
When you take the cardboard out, you will see that the design of the folder has been engraved, adding texture and volume to the paper.

Imagination and creativity
The embossed cardboard can be used for card backgrounds, lining the covers of an album, creating a personalised notebook, and a thousand other ideas!
You can also combine it with other techniques. For example, by applying ink directly from the pad onto the embossing folder, you will get a coloured embossing. Or if you use a white card, gently sand the embossed design to make it stand out more. You can also apply a patina over the embossing to give it a touch of shine, use alcohol inks, create a blur with brushes and inks, and so on.
But we don't have to limit ourselves to paper or cardboard! These are other materials that you can emboss: thin cardboard, vellum paper, thin aluminium (like that of cans), watercolour paper, cork sheet, eva rubber, bookbinding cloth (the one with the paper on the back), thin leather... The results will surprise you.
The creative possibilities are endless, you just have to let your imagination run wild!
17 models in 2 sizes
We have created 17 different models of embossing folders in 2 different sizes. The large ones measure 15 x 20 cm (approx. 6 āx8ā) and are for use with the large die cutters such as the Big Shot, Blog Shot Plus, Big Shot Switch, Revolution, Happy Cut, etc. The small ones measure 7.5 x 12.5 cm (3 āx5ā) and are suitable for our Minty Cut, Mini Evolution or Mini Happy Cut.
In each of these die cutters, the sandwich for using the embossing folder will be made according to the manufacturer's instructions. The intensity of the embossing will also depend on the weight of the paper you put inside the folder, and remember that you can apply more pressure if necessary by adding one or two pieces of cardboard on top of the sandwich.
Our embossing folder designs feature basic patterns, perfect for combining with all kinds of projects. In the large folders you will find designs of squares, flowers, hearts, branches, paper aeroplanes, moons and stars, feathers, monstera leaves, butterflies or doodles. The six models in the small folders include squares, hearts, stars, twigs, sprinkles or confetti and decorated frames. A lot of different designs that are versatile and that you can easily combine in all your projects
The 15 x 20 cm embossing folders are sold individually and the 7.5 x 12.5 cm folders can be purchased in pairs.
