Magnetic Magic Mats are here. Since we told you about the release of this product, you haven't stopped asking for them. In fact, we understand you because it is a very helpful tool to make dies.
Magic Mat
When we launched the Magic Mat, we didn't expect such a positive reception as they had. But they are a very useful product, especially if you use your die-cutting machines a lot. A Magic Mat replaces one of the cutting plates of either the Big Shot or the Mini Evolution.
The advantage of a Magic Mat is that they are significantly more long-lasting than a cutting plate. They are made of a much more durable material that is self-healing. This way, you can use them for much longer without having to replace them with new ones.
After launching them, we started working again, as we wanted to improve the Magic Mat a little more, and making them magnetic seemed to us to be the next step. So, after many months of work, they're here!
Magnetic Magic Mat
We have made these new Magic Mat in pink to differentiate them easily from the regular Magic Mat, which is turquoise. As with the previous ones, these cutting mats have a grid to align the dies easily. And this one is the magnetic side of the Magic Mat, where our dies will stick to the surface. The other side of the pink Magic Mat is not magnetic, and we have made it in solid pink to distinguish it from the other side. And you can still use this other side as a regular Magic Mat!
Having a magnetic mat has great advantages. You can forget about sticking washi tape on your dies to prevent them from moving and of course, they are great for aligning your dies if, for example, you want to make a design with letters.
The main difference when using the magnetic Magic Mat to the normal ones is that if in the turquoise ones we placed the dies with the blade facing them, in these ones, you will do it the other way round. Due to the fact that the blade side of the dies has less metallic surface than the reverse side and, therefore, it is a little more difficult for it to adhere to the die surface. Moreover, if you'd place the dies facing the Magnetic Magic Mat, the paper would be between the die and the magnetic Magic Mat.
And if you don't want to damage the methacrylate plates, you can use another Magic Mat to complete the sandwich :)
How to use the magnetic Magic Mat
If you have a die cutting machine, you probably know how to make sandwiches. If you still have any doubts, we recommend you to take a look at this post: "How to make a sandwich with your dies and the Sizzix Big Shot" where we tell you the different steps to follow to make sandwiches depending on the type of dies you are using. The magnetic Magic Mat can only be used with metallic dies, Thinlits or similar. If you want to use a BigZ die, you can do it too, but due to the nature of the BigZ die, the magnets won't work.
Sandwiches with the standard Magnetic Magic Mat
This size is compatible with the Sizzix Big Shot. To make a sandwich using the Magnetic Magic Mat, set it up as follows: multipurpose platform (sheet 1), fine die adaptor, Magnetic Magic Mat, paper, and a methacrylate cutting base (or another Magic Mat!).
Sandwiches with the Mini Magnetic Magic Mat
The smaller one is compatible with the Mini Evolution and replaces the transparent base of the sandwich, the grey one is the one you need. The sandwich will then look like this: Mini Magnetic Magic Mat, dies, paper, the grey cutting base, and that's it!
Using them is very easy, as you can see, and their great advantage is that they will last much longer than the regular cutting bases. Their care is the same as the other Magic Mat, we talked about this in this post: "Magic Mat, the revolution for our die-cutting sandwiches". So, if your Magic Mat starts to bend, apply heat with a heat gun or submerge it in hot water, and it will return to its original shape.
If you would like to know more about them, we have made a video where we explain everything, and you can see how they work:
