Let's go with a review of these amazing Brush Pens from Pentel! Let's talk about their uses, advantages and some ideas to get the most out of these famous brush pens.
It's not the first time we've talked about brush pens on this blog, but both Mixed Media techniques and calligraphy have made them popular, and it's important to get to know them to know which ones are most comfortable for us. So, in our eagerness to help you choose the markers you need, today we want to talk about the Pentel Color Brush.
As you well know (and if you don't, we'll tell you about it), the Brush Pens are markers that imitate the stroke of a pen due to their brush-like tip. That's why they are very useful for both calligraphy and drawing. On other occasions, we have talked about the benefits of the Tombow and WaterColor Brush pens, but the Pentel pens are not far behind.
What are Pentel's Color Brush markers?
Pentel's Color Brush pens are one of the best you can find on the market. The high quality of the pigment and the finish of the tip make these markers a real gem. With them, you can work like with a brush, and you can also combine it with the water brush. These markers are a big investment, but the best thing is that they are refillable, and you can replace the cartridges when you run out of ink. For all these reasons, they have become one of the favourite materials for lettering and drawing technique lovers.
The brush tip is made up of small synthetic bristles that imitate the hairs of a paintbrush. If we move the brush quickly, we get a very characteristic "brush" effect in the stroke, which you have probably seen in lettering works. It looks like you are painting with a brush.
Advantages of Pentel's Color Brush markers:
A long, large, pointed and very flexible brush made of nylon fibres, which is very similar to the tip of a paintbrush and is found in most of the water brushes (refillable brushes) used for lettering or colouring. It makes both thin and thick strokes, which is perfect for calligraphy and colouring larger surfaces. The body of the pen is not rigid and allows us to press down to better control the amount of ink we apply at any given moment.

It's a very practical tool for Mixed Media works, since by applying a little water we can use it in watercolour mode, but also, on its own, it can be used for sketching in your Art Journal or Traveller's Journal. Ideal for calligraphy as it allows great precision in lettering, creating different textures and styles, such as the dry brush effect. Pressing harder on the brush gives thicker strokes, pressing lightly gives thinner strokes.

They are perfect for travelling without having to carry a lot of junk. All you need is a few Pentel markers and a good notebook.
They are available in 18 different colours and with refillable cartridges, which is a great advantage.
Tips for using Pentel's Color Brush markers:
Some important details to bear in mind when using the Color Brush is that they are water-based markers, so they require a certain drying time. If you want to use them with stamps, remember to use a waterproof ink (Archival ink, for example). When you are going to use them, it is advisable to squeeze the body of the marker to help the ink to go down, and then you will see it on the tip of the brush, at which point you can get down to work. In the same way, when writing calligraphy, it is essential not to forget to press on the body of the brush to avoid running out of ink in the middle of the word.

All in all, Pentel's Color Brush markers are particularly interesting for those who are looking for high-quality, long-lasting and very precise brush pens. Have you tried them yet?
