Caravaggio Complete Works 40th Ed.

Caravaggio, or to be more precise Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio (1571-1610), was always a figure of prominence. Considered a rebel in Italian painting, the artist was both praised and reviled. Of violent temperament and precise technique, he was both a creative master and a fugitive from justice. Today he is considered one of the most influential figures in the entire history of art.

This edition offers an orderly but comprehensive catalogue raisonné (exhaustive catalogue, with all known works) of Caravaggio. All of his paintings are reproduced on the basis of recent, high-quality photographs that allow us to enjoy first-hand the artist's brilliant repertoire of looks and gestures and the numerous details of his personal, boundary-pushing realism.

The five chapters that complete the book cover Caravaggio's entire career, from his first public commissions in Rome to the height of his celebrity. Likewise, the book's detailed chronology reviews his tempestuous personal life, in which the tragic had the same prominence as the chiaroscuro in his canvases.
