Drawing and seeing

A sketchbook can be a record of a journey or a kind of visual diary. It can take any form - be it a bound piece of paper, an ordinary sketchbook or a diary - but the important thing is that we can carry it with us so that we have the freedom to draw anywhere.

From Antonio Pisanello, when he drew animals in their natural environment, to Ludwig Kirchner, drawing in the busy streets of Berlin, sketchbooks have always allowed the artist the autonomy to experience the world at first hand.
