This is a book about churches and taverns, institutions that are very different from each other, but which have one thing in common: they both have a large number of parishioners.
In historic Madrid there are more than fifty churches full of history and art, and also hundreds of bars and taverns with many years of life and rich and varied gastronomic offerings.
The purpose of this book is to present, together and in digestible doses, both heritages, sometimes so unknown by the Madrilenians themselves. It proposes to do so in eleven comfortable strolls, enjoying in each of them three churches and three taverns, all of them recommendable for their history, their architecture, the works of art they treasure and their specialities, in the case of the latter.
At each stage, the location of the three churches and taverns is indicated, but no itinerary is given, leaving it up to the walker to choose the route that best suits his body and soul.
This book is illustrated with plans, drawings and watercolours of each walk, but its intention is that, apart from the enjoyment of reading it, it should serve as an incentive to go out for a stroll through the streets and squares of these old quarters and thus get to know this exciting city in person.
