Theo Van Gogh is a "talentless" man whose existence is based on his love for art and for his brother Vincent, the family artist, to whom he sends money and melancholy letters. This hitherto unpublished correspondence, rigorously invented by Julio César Pérez, plays speculatively with Vincent's real letters to Theo, is interrupted shortly before their deaths and does not record any of the events that marked the life of the "red-haired madman". Rather, it tells of the hopes and fears of the lesser-known of the brothers, of the Paris of the Impressionists, of the profound meaning of art. In these pages there are shadows, death and tragedy, but above all there is the search, sometimes fruitless, for beauty. That which Julio César Pérez pursues with insolent freedom
