Loose and Lively Animals in Watercolour, Inks and Mixed Media

Animals are a perennial favourite amongst artists, but many struggle to capture their form and character in a way that reflects the true spirit of the animal. Jo's genuine passion for wildlife is reflected in her art, and her ability to paint animals in a relaxed, lively and dynamic style is something many wish to emulate.

Including a wide range of animals from around the world: red squirrels, peacocks, lions and domestic cats; from water voles and red squirrels to Atlantic puffins: this book will appeal to both amateur and more advanced artists who wish to relax their style and adopt a more experimental approach to their watercolour painting.

Jo uses an interesting variety of artistic media and techniques in her work, and this will be explored in a structured way throughout the book, starting with pure watercolour and moving through various other media to show the effects that can be achieved, and when and how to use them.

Jo's main medium is watercolour, but to this he adds ink and other media, including:

water-soluble and permanent pens

alcohol

gold, silver and bronze leaf

Daler-Rowney acrylic inks

Her technique is wet on wet, with lots of flowers, vivid colours and striking contrasts and textures achieved by the addition of wax resist, salt, splatter and scraping.

Jo's animal paintings are stunning and this book will inspire and instruct artists on how to recreate Jo's style and her stunning animal paintings in a fresh and relaxed style.
