Cutting Mat
Craft Cutting Mat
A cutting mat allows you to protect your workspace when crafting, providing you with a stable and flat surface to work on.
Either for use with cutters, glues, or inks, these mats are a must in any craftroom or workshop.
Scrapbooking Cutting Mat
There is a wide variety of cutting mats for scrapbooking: self-healing, glass, magnetic, bigger or smaller, for example. And which one is better? Well, it depends on the uses you are planning for it. They all share a gridded design with measurements in centimetres or inches. Measuring, cutting, or aligning is much quicker and easier this way.
Types of Cutting Mats
Self-healing Cutting Mat
They are so-called because if you cut on them with a cutter, the cuts disappear within a few minutes due to a special three-layer PVC. Furthermore, you can use them on both sides, which extends their lifetime. As they are the most common type, they are available in different sizes and colours.
Glass Cutting Mat
This type of mat is made of tempered glass, making them perfect for use with inks or paints, as you can mix them directly on the base and then clean it easily. You can also cut on it and use hot glue. They usually have small support pieces in the corners to prevent them from moving while working on them.
Magnetic Cutting Base
They are also self-healing, yet they have one advantage. As they are magnetic, they prevent the paper from moving while cutting. Likewise, you can use some magnets to attach the project to the mat while working on it.
It is always advisable that the cutting mat is large enough to work comfortably, but it is also a good idea to have a slightly smaller one to carry easily.
On the other hand, do not forget that you will need a metal ruler to use the cutter with it. Sometimes you can even find that they come together (mat and ruler). They are, undoubtedly, an inseparable duo.
Now that you know that a good cutting mat is essential, you will find here a wide selection of the best ones on the market at the best price so that you can choose yours.
