Calligraphy Nib Holders

Calligraphy Nib Holders

In calligraphy, the choice of every element of the fountain pen is absolutely essential. Nibs, holders, inks… everything depends on your own personal needs and purposes.

The first thing you need to choose is whether to go with a straight holder or an oblique one. Each of these tools requires you to learn and master a different kind of technique. Indeed, you don’t hold and write with fountain pens like you do with a normal ballpoint pen, and you don’t hold the same way a straight holder with an oblique one.

Straight nib holders have different sizes and diameters. The longest one is for simulating paintbrushes. Some are curved for a better hand grip. Most nib holders are made of wood or plastic since they’re pretty light weighted and are easy gripping materials. Straight ones have usually a rubber ring to hold the nib, while oblique ones achieve pretty different angles which are required for certain calligraphies.
