Calligraphy Nibs

Calligraphy Nibs

Calligraphy is the beauty of manual work. But writing is not just applying letters in succession on a sheet of paper. In calligraphy, writing is quite an art, it is a tool for creation and personal expression.

Half of the result is due to fountain pens, the most emblematic element is the nib. It is the metal part that draws and channels the ink on to the paper. They can be shaped differently to create different types of lines.

The round pen and the italic pen are the most popular. The first is intended for common, normal and completely neutral calligraphy, while the second is specifically intended for italic, elegant and sublime writing. It takes extra effort, but the result is really worth it.

The tip size of a nib will have the greatest impact on how a nib writes. Larger tips create wide lines suitable for bold writing, but people usually prefer smaller sizes for everyday writing because they draw a line width closer to that of a typical ballpoint or gel ink pen.

The beveled tip is particularly suitable for elegant and practical writing. Since its ends are wedge-shaped, you get to have both a wide and a very narrow edge. Depending on how you hold the pen, you will get a more or less thick line.

The bullet tip is the most commonly used one. Writing instruments generally have a bullet tip and allow all kinds of line thicknesses. Because the tip is round, you can hold the pen as you wish, but the line will always be the constant and make writing long text easier.
