Types of Eco-leather

WeĀ have brought up to four different types of eco-leather to our brand, there is something for every taste, different textures, different colours, finishes... All of them have the same measures, 35 Ɨ 50 cm and are presented in a plastic box to avoid that the eco-leather could be damaged and to facilitate its storage.
  • Matte finish: lacks gloss and is very, very soft to the touch. Available in ten colours: white, purple, pink, mint, blue, grey, brown, mustard, green and turquoise.

Techniques for working with the eco-leather

Working with the eco-leather is easier than it seems, although it'll always depend on the techniques you decide to use. Some techniques require us to spend more time, but it's worth it, because you'll love the final result. These are our proposals to work your eco-leather:

ReppousƩ

This technique consists on working our eco-leather in such a way that it will be embossed. You'll only need glue, a brush, a folder, a graver (although it's not absolutely necessary) and a die-cut, chipboard or any other element that has some thickness. The first step is to cover with glue our die-cut and with the help of a folder, start gluing the eco-leather and the die-cut. It's best to start from the centre, this way you'll work more easily and you'll avoid the formation of air bubbles. With a bit of patience, sink your folding device through all the holes to ensure that the leather takes on the right shape. The more intrinsic the shape of the die-cut you've chosen, the longer it'll take you to work on the eco-leather. Be patient, because the result will be worth it, it's better to go slowly and add the glue by sections. Embossing Eco-Leather

Tip: to prevent the glue from coming off all the time while you're working, you should go for small parts and apply a thin layer of glue, so that it dries faster. You'll go quicker this way.

Embossing

Just as you would do embossing with any paper, you can do the same with eco-leather, you'll see that the result is beautiful. However, be careful with the number of times you use your Sizzix, as the leather could break. In most of the cases, one go is enough. Embossing and Eco-Leather

Hot Embossing

This is another option to make on your eco-leather. You'll need ink, stamps, embossing powder, and, of course, the heat gun. Stamp your eco-leather, pour some embossing powder on our freshly placed stamp, and apply heat with your heat gun. Another idea to get the most out of this material.

Foil Quill

WeĀ won't deny that we love using the Foil Quill, so if we can also combine it with the eco-leather, so much better. Plus the result are... see for yourselves! Foil Quill and Eco-Leather

Sewing

OurĀ eco-leather is totally compatible with its use in sewing machines and the result of its combination could not be more beautiful. It leaves a very delicate and professional outcome.

Tips for working the eco-leather

LikeĀ everything else, the first time we make something for the first time, we have many doubts, but we promise you that using eco-leather is very easy. Besides, with the advice we're about to give you, you won't have any problem! -Use felt for bookbinding to achieve the cushioned effect, giving some volume. Eco-leather and felt

Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  @elescrapĀ  Ā /Ā @_julia_tischenko

-The corners. Those headaches. You have to be very precise when you bind, otherwise, the corners will have an unwanted volume. To avoid this, once you've finished binding, take your iron and put a piece of paper between the eco-leather and the iron to protect it. Apply heat to that area where you want to eliminate the volume. It's important to only apply heat and not steam. The heat will melt the eco-leather a little eliminating the volume and leaving the corners completely smooth. Another option to avoid this happening to us is to use our Bookbinding Rule Set, which will save you a lot of time. As you can see, you can make real beauties with the eco-leather, from albums with a thousand shapes to the most classic ones, for the interior parts of albums, midoris, notebooks, boxes... Anything you have in mind is a good option to work the eco-leather. In case you are still undecided, we leave you with some photos for inspiration: Eco-Leather projects
