A basic item in our scraproom is double-sided adhesive tape. We want to explain how to get the best out of it and some tips to make our works the most original ones.

As you know, from time to time we like to talk on our blog about some of those essential elements for our scrapbooking and craft projects that, although they may seem simple, end up being very useful. This is what happens to double-sided adhesive tape, because it deserves a special place in our scraproom.

Double-sided adhesive tape- types, uses, and tips

Double-sided adhesive tape advantages

-We can use it to glue photographs because it does not contain acids or lignins and therefore will not damage the material. Pay attention to this, because we often use any kind of glue for photographs and over time we can get a little upset! Save yourself the trouble with double-sided adhesive tape.

-It allows you to stick light-weight paper with a total guarantee, because it does not wrinkle or soak the paper as happens with liquid glues.

-Easy to handle, it is clean and easy to cut, there is no need to get your hands dirty spreading liquid glue. You just roll the tape over the surface and cut it with your hand where you think it is necessary. Then just remove the other layer and you are ready to glue.

-It is very resistant -although it might seem the opposite-, so it is perfect to use it in different structures or different types of bindings.

-It's very durable, and you can also get an idea of how much you have left. Liquid glue can run out when you least expect it and without even realizing it.

Double-sided adhesive tape types

There are different types depending on the size or measurement. From those that measure about 5 mm. wide to those that measure up to 50 mm. Depending on what you are going to do, you'll need one or another. In general terms, we can distinguish between:

Double-sided adhesive tape types

-Thin double-sided adhesive tape: with a narrow width, ideal for gluing small decorative elements or for making album structures, cards, etc.

-Thick double-sided tape: with a wider width, ideal for use on large surfaces.e.g. if you are making album covers. It is easier to spread a single wide tape, rather than having to fill the paper surface with many small strips.

-3D double-sided tape: this one looks different from the other two, because it is made of foam. It is very practical for use in scrapbooking decorations to add volume to small details.

No wonder, a good scrapper will always have all three types of tape!

Uses and tips for double-sided adhesive tape

-Creating album structures: using double-sided tape is the most practical way to create the structures of our albums. Depending on the structure, we can use a wider or a thinner one. For example, in an accordion binding, it is better to use double-sided adhesive tape, so we won't smear everything with liquid glue, which is much more difficult to control. With double-sided adhesive tape, you are sure to get it right.

-Creating album, notebook or diary covers: to make chipboard covers that are lined with scrapbook paper, the most practical option is to do it with strips of double-sided tape. In this case, you will also prevent the liquid glue from overflowing over the sides or over-wetting the paper and damaging it. Uses and tips for double-sided adhesive tape 2

-Making foil strips without the Minc machine: if you are a big fan of foil, but you don't have a Minc, don't give it up because double-sided adhesive tape can be very useful. You will only need the foil sheets and the double-sided tape to stick the foil wherever you want. The result can be very professional. And apart from applying it to a scrapbooking project, why not try applying it to any decorative object?
