The resin technique is a recent innovation in manual and artistic activities and is growing in popularity. While handling it can be risky and complex, it is possible to master it by taking certain precautions and getting to know the product inside out.

That's why we've developed Aqua Resin: a new, natural, non-toxic resin that's perfect for all your projects. Aqua Resin!

Aqua Resin is a white, water-based acrylic resin of natural mineral origin, making it completely safe and non-toxic. Unlike conventional epoxy resin, Aqua Resin is safe for children to handle. It is both environmentally friendly and harmless to humans. It is completely odourless, so there is no need to handle it in a ventilated area or wear special protective equipment.

You can use all types of moulds of different sizes without damaging them as it contains no corrosive agents. What's more, the resin dries relatively quickly. Allow between 30 minutes and an hour for satisfactory results, depending on the thickness of the project. No more endless waits!

One 'disadvantage' of Aqua Resin, if you can call it that, is its opaque, porcelain-like white colour. If you want to colour a project, you will need to tint it with dyes or pigments. Bear in mind that the result will always be opaque, with no transparency or translucency.

Furthermore, Aqua Resin is not as durable as epoxy resin. Its nature makes it susceptible to erosion and breakage due to its similarity to plaster. This is why we recommend applying a final coat of varnish to protect the entire piece. However, bear in mind that Aqua Resin and its results are not suitable for outdoor use.

What is aqua resin?

Let's take a look at how to use Aqua Resin and with which utensils.

Materials needed to work with Aqua Resin:

  1. Aqua Resin.
  2. Silicone moulds or other easy-release materials.
  3. Plastic glass.
  4. Inks or pigments.
  5. Gloves (nitrile, latex or rubber) to prevent staining.
  6. Water.
  7. Precision balance (optional)
  8. Sandpaper.
  9. Large container.

Instructions for use:

  1. Prepare your work area. Make sure it is clean and free of debris and dust to avoid contaminating the resin. Gather all the necessary equipment, cover the work surface and wear gloves to avoid staining your skin. However, gloves are optional as the resin does not irritate the skin.
  2. Set up your scales and a glass or container. Remember to zero the scales so that the weight displayed starts at 0, regardless of the weight of the container.
  3. Pour the ingredients at a ratio of 100:30 (i.e. 100 g of resin to 30 g of water). You can use any quantities you like depending on the size of your mould. It's better to prepare an extra quantity to avoid having to mix a new batch and alter the drying times.
  4. Mix the ingredients thoroughly until they are fully combined to form a homogeneous paste that is not too runny or too thick. You can adjust the quantities slightly by adding more of one of the ingredients.
  5. Begin by adding the powder to the glass, then gradually pour in the water while stirring continuously to prevent lumps forming.
  6. Once everything is well mixed, you can colour the liquid and add decorative elements.
  7. Slowly pour the mixture into the mould until it is full. Tap or shake the mould lightly to dislodge any air bubbles, then leave the resin to stand so that the bubbles can escape.
  8. You will notice that the project starts to heat up slightly. This indicates that the chemical reaction is underway and the drying process has begun.
  9. Leave it to dry completely.
  10. Once dry, carefully remove it from the mould.
  11. Use sandpaper to polish the piece and remove any imperfections.
  12. Dip the project in water, then sand it successively to remove any dust residue. Immersing the piece in water will hydrate it. This will contribute to the final look.
  13. Leave to dry completely, then apply a coat of varnish if necessary.
  14. Your work is complete!
